We’ve launched a new tool that shows the uptime and latency of hosting providers by summarizing the monitoring of individual websites at each hosting provider. Add your website now so we can make your hosting provider more accountable to providing quality service.
Most hosting providers do not provide the quality of service their customers deserve. After 10 years of hosting many different websites with many different hosting providers (including large managed dedicated server providers that charge a premium for better quality service), I’m still often disappointed at the quality of service. Just in the last couple of years, I’ve had the following incidents occur with different website projects…
- Technician accidentally unplugged our mission critical server causing a service interruption to all our customers
- Host re-assigned our IP address to a different customer without our knowledge and didn’t realize they had done this until we contacted them
- Started to have 1-2 hard drive failures per month across 10 servers (what the heck were they doing to these hard drives?)
Often when calling a hosting provider to resolve a problem, you first have to prove there really is a problem and then you have to motivate them to resolve your problem quickly (good luck with that).
In my experience, there is a big difference in the quality of service and support provided by hosting providers and we hope this new tool can be expanded to monitor enough providers to become a useful resource choosing a quality hosting provider.
